The Potential of E-Health |
|
This is the seventh in a series of conferences organized by Vidya Pratishthan’s Institute of Information Technology (VIIT) in Baramati, Maharashtra, India. This year, the conference will focus on the use of Information and Communication Technology in Health (e-Health), exploring avenues through which governments, NGOs, development agencies and corporations can work, to successfully promote e-health to benefit the Indian population
The healthcare industry is constantly changing and continually incorporating new advances in science and technology to meet society's needs. Recent developments in communication technology such as videoconferencing, the Internet, storing and forwarding images, streaming media, satellites, and wireless communications have greatly facilitated the exchange of information and expertise
E-health is an emerging field which intersects with medical informatics, public health and the healthcare service delivery business, to improve access to affordable quality healthcare through the use of information technology. In a broader sense, the term characterizes not only a technical development, but also a state-of-mind, a way of thinking, an attitude, and a commitment for a networked, global thinking approach, to improve health care locally, regionally, and worldwide by using information and communication technology
This year’s conference theme is to showcase an unprecedented number of e-health applications that are beginning to deliver on the expected benefits of improved patient outcomes, better patient safety and cost effective care delivery, and to discuss how we can maximize the potential of e-Health in developing countries. Indian corporations, international NGO’s, development agencies, governments and healthcare service providers from around the world will join us in exploring the following topics:
Government efforts on use of ICT in health and family welfare
Potential impact of E- health initiatives & policies on rural health - International development agencies perspective
Health insurance – driving IT adoption
